Chalk is one of those materials that draws you into it’s smooth texture and bright color palette. I love to see kids coloring gleefully on sidewalks or marvel over the works of skilled street artists who work exclusively in chalk.
If Picasso is not your middle name, you may want to try “Chalk Board Paint”. It comes ready made or you can make it yourself in all the colors of the rainbow. I always choose the high road when it comes to projects like this, I am a real “do-it-yourself-er” at heart! Here’s a nice one from The Martha, a wall size chalk board calendar.
I love these ideas for off-beat chalk colorings. I remember when my daughter first exercised her art skills on my newly painted bedroom walls, they could have been painted with chalk board paint but NOT!
This two-toned chalk board is a nice departure from traditional black.

A chalk board painted refrigerator is kitchen kitsch. I would rather not see anything hung on a fridge, but for some reason the surface is irresistible. More so than not end up as photogalleries, an art display surface or a place to hang the latest memos or hottest diets.
Painting all the walls in chalk is a bit over the top to my taste, but I have seen it done over and over as a popular idea for this material. Here is an example of chalk board paint used as this incarnation.

FYI – Chalkboard paint is sold everywhere now. You can get it at Ace, IKEA, Home Center, etc… and for an added bonus paint the magnet stuff under it so you can have both a magnet board for posts and a chalkboard together.

I absolutely love the fridge! and thanks for letting me know that something called chalkboard paint excists.
Problem is that chalk dust is dangerous and can cause respiratory problems.
Personally I love the look, but I can’t stand the feeling of chalk on my fingers. Gives me the heeby jeebies 🙂
