With all of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday madness that’s just passed, there’s no denying that the holiday gift-giving season is officially on. And yes, while I will venture out to a few local favorites and big-box stores alike to gather a few things, for the most part I prefer to avoid the crowds (and the lunatics on the road) and shop at home via my trusty little MacBook.
One of my favorite online shopping destinations is the e-version of a museum’s gift shop. I love a good brick-and-mortar museum store shopping experience, but when you can’t actually be there, this is the next best thing. However, instead of giving you a list of links to some of my favorites, like the Art Institute of Chicago and everything Smithsonian, I’m just giving you one—musee.com.
Musee.com is the perfect portal to world-famous museums and more unique, regional ones alike. You can search museums by location, subject or type, and with the site’s “featured museums” and “featured products” sections, it’s easy to discover something new. What’s more, shopping at museum stores directly benefits the education programs, exhibits and operations of each institution, making it a wonderful way to buy great gifts and support the arts as well.
