I wish I could say I discovered this site all on my own, but the truth is, a friend (who I didn’t think was even remotely interested in interior design) turned me on to it a couple of months ago. This Is Not Ikea opened lat year to provide “a place where cool, unique and vintage furniture is available to people at an IKEA price.”
Mission totally accomplished.
Divided into tons of categories, including colors, styles, rooms and more, TINI is the ultimate treasure hunt, a place where you can (and I have) spend hours browsing everything from mirrors and tables to lamps and chairs. I love that the products are so well-organized that I can easily pick out something specific to look at, like a random selection of ashtrays my parents weren’t cool enough to have back in the day.
The site is positively stuffed with great finds, and the inventory is constantly changing. The owners hit up estate sales, auctions, garage sales and flea markets on a weekly basis looking for every thing in every style, making TINI a site you definitely have to keep coming back to time and again to check out all the fun new/old stuff.
Here are just a few things I’m loving on at the moment…
Old telephone chairs have always fascinated me, and I love this one with the funky upholstery and black metal tubular base and side table. I think it would make a great addition to my little home office!
These double-level side tables would work equally as well in the bedroom as nightstands for book nerds like me as they would in a spacious mod living room.
I’m particularly fond of this dining table with the black-and-white top and sleek metal legs. I’ve had my eye on that white Parsons table at West Elm for some time, but this one just expanded the list of contenders for the dining room.
If you’re lucky(?) enough to live in the Los Angeles area, you can check out their new retail location. But if you’re like me, you’re still in luck, because the personal service you would receive in-store extends to the online experience as well. While there’s no cart to add your purchases to, just take your time browsing, make a list, and then make contact with one of the folks at the store to get more info on the items and to arrange payment and shipping.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be over in the “crazy stuff” section pondering the purchase of this drive-thru sign for my kitchen!
I love the name of this store and the things in it… to die for…
Fell in love with a lamp http://www.thisisnotikea.com/wordpress/?p=9087
Great find Mel, thank you!
