Wood Stools and Seder Plates by Kakadu
On the way home from a weekend hike my husband and I happened upon the Kakadu studio, which is located in Moshav Zafririm on the outskirts of Jerusalem. As we pulled into the parking lot we could hear roosters across the way cacadoodle-dooing us a warm welcome… Kakadu sure knows how to set the tone for a down to earth shopping experience.
* A Kakadu is a white parrot that is sacred to the Aborigine people of Australia
Once inside we were pleasantly surprised with a bright selection of painted wood items adorned with familiar local themes and whimsical patterns all made in Israel. There are many price ranges to choose from starting at 85 NIS for a one dimensional wood hamsa, up to 980 NIS for each of the sculptural works featured below. While this is expensive, I can see splurging for the one special item (hand carved and one of a kind).

Kakadu also carries a nice variety of hand painted pillows.
If you can’t make it out to Moshav Zafririm, then you can visit their gallery shop at 14 Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv where they offer a well merchandised selection.
If you do happen to make it out there, Kakadu will welcome you.
*Franchise shops can be found in the USA in Boston and Washington D.C.
Store review: Kakadu
Kakadu is one of those companies that you either love or you don’t. I have to admit – I’m on the don’t side.

I agree about the love/hate relationship…but when I visited the studio I saw that they have a few very nice hand made one of a kind pieces. Sometimes there are extrodinary among the ordinary!

I have to comment on my own post’s product. For passover we were in the States and we brought our hosts a cutting board from Kakadu, they absolutely loved it! Not only did they admire it with oohs and ahhs, they used it immediately for cutting ingredients for the seder’s Haroset.
I guess they are some of the ones who “love it”!
