Dervish in Tel Aviv
My first visit to Dervish was at least fifteen years ago and much to my surprise; I found that it still stands right where I left it. This small, bazaar-like shop that was opened by two sisters in the mid 1960’s has been evolving ever since and today it is filled with ethnic delights from around the world.
Embroidered Pillow Selection
The things in this shop are authentic, not like the stuff of today that is cheaply copied from products like the ones seen here. Along with an extensive collection of handwoven textiles, Dervish has a roundup of unique gift items like the beaded dolls and small carved masks in the wooden bowl below.
Blue Glass Collection
I love glass like this, in my house I mix and match my table settings; mingling fine porcelain with sea glass and cloth napkins.
Wearable Textiles
Store proprietor, Doreen showing a hand embroidered vest from India.
I happened upon the store owner who was kind enough to grace me with her vast knowledge of textiles and fabric styles… this must by my lucky month.
Handwoven & Hand Dyed Scarves
Dervish carries a unique selection of handpicked Ikats like the ones seen hanging here behind the scarves. Ikats can be framed and hung as a decorating accent, a nice option for a room in need of a softer touch.
Beaded Jewelry
More of a gallery and less like a store, Dervish is a gift shoppers haven. It is a bit tricky to find, tucked along a side street just off of Gordon Street in Tel Aviv but if you follow the map from the website you should be just fine.
* Special store party this Friday, Feburary 6th from 11 – 3.
