Post publishing edit: I published this over a year ago when I first started the blog. Apparently (as you can see from the first comment) I had the order of copying wrong. Ralph Lauren first did this desk – the rest copied RL. Sorry for any one upset over my error.
Why bother doing original designs when you can simply rip off what everyone else is doing?
I came across yet another desk which is a copy of the William Sonoma Home desk and the Ethan Allen desk I mentioned in an earlier post – shockingly the copier this time is Ralph Lauren Home.
I was reading a very clever post on AT about a Ralph Lauren Tumbler set when I decided to look at the Ralph Lauren Home site. I looked at the new collections and my eyes bugged out when I saw this desk.
Don’t these companies hire huge expensive design teams to create original work?
I did love this desk on RLH’s site, the Collection Desk (yes, that is the name) looks like a remnant from a by-gone era. I like the lines, the shape, and the various shades of wood.
The only thing I don’t get is how they can justify over 16k USD for this desk.

I am shocked at how quickly you jump to conclusions.
Re: the Ralph Lauren desk- for the record, RL was the first one to come to market with this desk. In fact light years before WSH even started selling furniture. Furthermore, if you had done your research you would have discovered that WSH design director is actually a former RL Home Collection designer, which explains why WSH furniture and accessories look so similar to RL. Overall, a fine job, I must say.
Get your facts straight before you broadcast misinformation across the web.
Thanks.
David,
First off – thank you for updating me and informing me of my error. My deepest apologies for getting it so phenomenally wrong.
Just out of curiosity – how do you know this? Where do you work? How do we know that what you’re saying is the truth?
