As far as how I like my home to smell, I tend toward tart citrus and fruit-infused scents. My three favorites are light but long-lasting to really fill the house, but not so strong as to induce a migraine.
Soular Therapy’s latest collection, Flare, is currently topping my list. Rind, shown above, combines Seville and Valencia orange peel with Japanese grapefruit zest for a scent that’s both soft and tangy. I keep one in my office and one in the kitchen. The Pink Pomelo and Persimmon Flare candles are equally delicious, and all are soy-based with lead-free cotton wicks.
Jonathan Adler’s Palm Beach Sunshine candle is aptly named—the marriage of citrus with lychee fruit and a hint of white rose petals invokes a sunny and happy feeling, like lounging on the deck with a cool cocktail. I always burn this one in the living room, often combining it with the few remaining mandarin votives from Pottery Barn I hoarded stocked up on a couple of years ago.
I remember several years ago when Votivo candles became all the rage, and Red Currant the most popular of all the scents. And for good reason: the delectable blend of red currants and raspberry with a touch of vanilla bean has mass appeal across the sexes, making it a truly luxe choice for both bed and bath.
