MUMS!
Mums at Barton Orchard, Fishkill Farms N.Y.
I must confess, I used to be a mum hater…
Over the years my attitude towards this colorful Fall Perennial has changed. Mums are the choice flower for Fall gardening in the North East, USA. While the climate cools and the leaves start to turn, this cool weather plant thrives with rich, colorful blooms.

Mums can be planted early in the summer to insure overwintering and good root support but most gardeners more commonly plant mums in late August through early September.
This burst of color is just what the doctor ordered as summers gardens start to wither. Below my Mom planted her giant yellow mum in a large copper pot and it looks spectacular.
