Would you recommend buying a kitchen from Ikea to install in a new home – for the long term? My husband and i have been around to various Israeli kitchen places and while we are impressed with the models and plans that we’ve been given by them, the high prices are also quite impressive… So we keep going back and forth in our heads about Ikea kitchens. Obviously the quality of an Ikea kitchen will be significantly less than a kitchen from, say, Decor or Ziv or Topaz, etc. but how much wear and tear do kitchens go through in the first place? would one of ikea’s most expensive kitchens look cheap ? any thoughts? might your readers have opinions?

While my kitchen was not from Ikea, my gas hobs, the fan above it and the sink were. I am NOT impressed. The hobs do not light well, the overhead fan is starting to rust (stainless steel, my foot) and the sink has the most complicated piping I have ever seen… the plumber thought it was terrible. I agree with him, I have had to silicone the underneath twice as the piping does not meet the sink properly!!)
I definitely wouldn’t recommend their appliances. You can do better in an online auction (my got ours from olsale.com)
After going to all the kitchen companies here and in Hertzlia Petuach, along with some in Tel Aviv, I have gone with a kibbutz carpenter group that makes cabinets. They made all my kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Nice, individualized work. They were very easy to deal with and less than the Regba style places but more than Home Center.
It is in Kibbutz Maanit.
The manager’s name is Dani…pretty good English.
The number is 04-637-5422 and cell 054-492-1212. Kibbutz Maanit (Nagarit Maanit)
I can even send you a photo if you want to see.

Lucky I read this post. We are about to buy a house and most of the houses we are considering need a new kitchen. We have been planning to go the Ikea kitchen route but after reading this I think we will have to re-think.
Anyone know about Home Center kitchens or another inexpensive alternative?
Mia – I think IKEA is fine for cabinets and for the cost you can’t get better design. I would simply make sure to get the details from somewhere else (like the countertop, electronics, and handles)
