Rachel Petersen is my cousin and lives with her husband, Keith Petersen (a photographer – his work is a must see) and their two stunning children in an adorable bungalow with hard wood floors and arched doorways. Honestly, I was swooning through their whole house.
The entryway leads into the living room and on through to the dining room, kitchen and hallway. The walls are this dusty blue which works as a nice contrast for the brighter colors splashed around the space.
The orange slip covered sofa is the yang to the blue yin. Or yin to the yang. Whatever. They are on opposite ends of the spectrum and compliment each other in this space.
I love this. On top of their fireplace, above the mantle, is this painted flattened box on a white background in a black frame. So simple, anyone can do it. It’s in the same orange that is in key places around their space and looks just fantastic. I just looked at it and thought, “Who does that? And how cool is that?!”
These orange gerberas are on the mantle, below the picture.
I can’t tell you how much of a kick I get from that flattened painted orange box in a frame.
The living room furniture is a mixture of modern (the sofa) with mid-century modern pieces, like this Isamu Noguchi coffee table.
I love the painting on the back wall.
The kitchen still has these amazing 50’s cabinets with the detailed wood edging.
Close up of the cabinet edging. Love it, love it, love it.
Love the pot rack and the butcher board counter top next to the old school stove.
Their oldest has a bunk bed which gives him more room to play with his sister. His room is extremely masculine with the blue walls and back furniture.
Her room is extremely girlie in light green, lavender and flower prints.
It’s a great place.

Love the house! The flattened box is way cool and light blue walls are a personal favorite of mine. Nice designing people!
The orange gerberas are featured beautifully. It is also a very decorative vase that look great on top of the mantle.
Sooooo cute! It has always been a dream of mine to live in a Bungalow in California. Super cute the way they decorated!
Got some additional information on the art that I loved so much. It’s by Tony Feher http://www.pacewildenstein.com/artists/ViewArtist.aspx?artist=TonyFeher&type=Artist&guid=95ee5b4a-844b-4449-9fbe-fc802c6a2749
And the small pottery vases and tray are by Heath, a pottery firm in Sausalito (CA).
