It is customary for designers to identify new trends in a New Year. 2010 inherits a great challenge , to cruise full speed ahead and rise up and out of last years slump… not a small task. All fingers point to a few obvious categories in decorating trends. Read on for my take on the matter.
LUCK
Back to basics with color and pattern we see a return to clean, bright primaries. These easy-to-understand colors are grounding and set a good pace for the bright palettes to come in the near future. With a little luck the world will figure out how to stabilize and move forward and gain the momentum that will be needed to triumph in the second half of 2010.
Tradition
A mix of pattern and style in basic blue. Traditional patterns come to the forefront in a playful ensemble of alluring eloquence. Two color Ikats in large and small patterns accentuate on texture in mood indigo. This multi cultural grouping brings out the best in home style.
Natures Bounty
This group directly addresses our relationship with Mother Nature, one of the most powerful forces in decorating and design today. A combination of deep rich colors and soft neutrals makes its mark as a strong lead. Add a quick shot of sky blue or moss green to spice up this palette and bring it full circle.
Soft Glam
Mad for plaid is Soft Glams lead pattern theme. The resurgence of pattern in stripe and plaid form is hitting hard in decorating for 2010. A gentle color palette of soft, grayed down sherberts are fresh and new.

Decorating themes for 2010
Great ideas Patti! I’m just itching to break out of the traditional theme after visiting Budapest where the design mix of traditional and contemporary is so dynamic and inspiring! The hard work however, will be to get the husband to agree! Do you have tips for that? :p
Tammy
Hi Tammy,
