Welcome to the first edition of “Color Tip of the Week”, because we here at Tchochkes know that “a little decoration is such a nice thing”.
Starting with a clean slate, the color WHITE seems appropriate. Many designers, including myself will argue that white is not a color, but any way you slice it white appears in most designers palettes as one of the most popular color choices of all.
White can be used to refresh an old paint job. By covering over an existing color, white can give a room new life and a fresh starting point for additional color ideas.
This pigment is the base for all colors. There are many degrees of white which can make choosing this color a challenge. Take a cue from your local paint company; they most likely will have a “most popular color” list which includes their tired and true white choices.
Color Choosing Tip:
*The best way to choose a white is to start out with the whitest choice, most collections will have a standard ceiling white to work with.
*Place additional color choices on top of a white sheet of paper during the selection process.
*The white background will allow you to see the subtle differences in tone and shade and allow for a clearer final choice.
* Always test your color choice on a small patch of wall in the room where it will live, whites have undertones that are difficult to see in a color chip.
* Find a white that you love and go from there, pulling colors from existing home accents will help make your job easier.
