A new stove makes a difference
Every step counts when you are upgrading an existing homes appliances. I went from harvest gold to solid gold when I changed out my old stove for a new one… voila, instant happiness!
Harvest Gold Stove
Painting before and After
My kitchen cabinets are down-right ugly, poor, brown laminate that they are. I am researching ways to make them look better but that will have to wait. In the mean-time, I was able to make a small improvement from the inside out just by using paint and some elbow grease.
Here are the cabinets as they were when I moved in. Dark brown stained wood. The cabinets were custom made back in the day and are very sturdy but it was hard to see the dishes so I decided to paint the insides in a semi-gloss white. This small change has made a world of difference.

Home tour: Somewhere in Israel, part 2
Part 1 of the “Somewhere in Israel” Home Tour was posted on Monday.
From the living room we go into the kitchen, which has as much visual activity as the rest of the house.
I love the drapes instead of doors. The color is vibrant and wonderful. These drapes also looked especially crisp, like they had just been ironed.

An Eye for Ikea
Earlier this week, I took a trip to the great homecenter in Israel; as with all trips I take, I brought along my trusty Nikon, here’s a different view of Ikea:
Kitchen trend, open shelving
Open kitchen shelving looks great, especially if you have beautiful dishes and other interesting serving pieces like the ones shown above. I have this in my home now and I like it for a few good reasons…
What’s with this sink?
This sink has everything that a kitchen sink should have,…
This Old House: before & after
This Old House, that must be my mantra; my life is one big “before & after”. I grew up in an old house and that title calls to me in more ways than one… I also love their website. If you have a project and you need good ideas, this is the place to look. Check out this kitchen…
Kitchen Before
Now that’s what I call a “fixer upper”, what a mess. Most people would walk away from a complete re-do, but not the folks at “This Old House”. Look at this amazing after shot.
Home tour: Ruthie and Ze’ev’s eclectic palace – Part 1
Thank goodness I live in a great neighborhood. I was supposed to take pictures of my brothers house for today’s post but it turns out that the house is filled with ticks from their dog (who is now asleep on my floor…) and it’s currently getting fumigated, so I was stuck without a Monday Home Tour! Out came the phone book and called my neighbor Ze’ev, an architect married to an amazing jewelry artist – Ruthie. I said “Ze’ev, I need your help,” and he replied “Do you want me to pick up your kids?”
Um, no. I need to take pictures of your amazing house.
They built their home about 10 years ago now, taking things, like the doors above, from old homes Ze’ev has renovated (in Israel they don’t have architectural scrap yards for some reason – they just throw everything away) and incorporating Ruthie’s pottery.

Store Review: Leopard Fun (the kitchen shop)
Leopard Fun is located up the block from Leopard, the main home shop that we reviewed previously. However you would never expect the stores to be related by the style of the items they carry. Only the name of the shop gave it away. Both stores carry well made items – but Leopard Fun has a heavy dose of whimsy – which is great for the kitchen.
Ignore the wallpaper and the seriously shoddy job of pasting the wallpaper on the wall – how cute are these kitschy clocks?

Ergonomically Elegant Kitchen
I recently had a health issue come up regarding my arm and neck. So, it got me thinking, most of us are aware of methods to make our computer use and office more ergonomically sound, such as wrist supports by our keyboards, or adjusting one’s monitor at eye level. What about in the kitchen?
