Bench, Please!
As far as multipurpose furniture goes, you can never go wrong with a bench or two. The location possibilities are almost endless—put one at the foot of the bed or in front of a window, create communal-style seating at the dining table or group a few together for a modular conversation pit. Today’s offerings are more stylish than ever, with clever storage, unexpected materials and silhouettes to fit every decor.
Quite possibly the most brilliant piece of furniture ever, the Cognita bench designed by BluDot for Herman Miller is equally at home in the office or in the bedroom. The upholstered seat lifts to reveal ample space for files or extra linens, while the hard section (which is the perfect spot to place a cocktail, by the way) opens to a removable tray with organizing compartments for smaller bits. A pair of drawers completes this smart instant classic.
Used indoors or out, Arktura’s laser-cut Coral table is bound to leave a lasting impression. Made from bent steel, the bench has soft lines, and is eco-friendly thanks to its no-VOC powder-coated finish. And the mesmerizing pattern is “algorithmically-generated,” which involves math.
Ceramic Artist: Hadas Ella – innovative serving design
What would you say to a cake platter that was already precut into triangular servings?
Terrific! Aesthetically pleasing! White (it goes with any place setting) and efficient – more room on the table and less to wash up! I thought this was such a clever piece designed by ceramic artist: Hadas Ella.
Making mix and match work
Colorful Mix and Match Table and Chairs
Furniture from Brazil
Mix and match is very different from “Matchy Matchy“, a term that Shira coined in one of her early posts on Tchochkes. I believe in combining unique styles with unusual color combinations. This works best when the colors are balanced within their color groups, like these multi-bright chairs in the room setting above. Although the chairs are mix and match, they coordinate nicely with the artwork and decorative blue trim.
Betili / Beitili – it’s all about black and white
First things first, the URL listed for Betili in the newspaper this past weekend is WRONG. Yes, the proper way to spell Betili in English is Beitili, but that isn’t their URL – it’s Betili. Typos happen. I did send them an email about it – and I’ll let you know if they get back to me.
Now, about this black and white collection they are doing…
