One of the most inspiring times of the year is…
Coat Trees by Usona
I found the link to Usona while thumbing through a favorite shelter magazine and was pleasantly surprised to find some whimsical, colorful and useful ideas on their website. I love to see a company utilize brights in their line up of designer home furnishings and accessories. More often than not home product is blurred by the beige brigade. I can see integrating the coat trees shown above in a group but I am pretty sure I would get upset if someone actually hung a coat on one of them.
Trendy Lighting by Lamps Plus
Lighting is an important feature of design. Finding the right lighting solutions can be one of the biggest challenges when decorating room, it certainly is one of the most important elements in the scheme of things. You can have style and function work hand in hand with a few resources. Luckily, the days of the Internet have made our jobs a lot easier when it comes to research. I found the company “Lamps Plus” on-line, they have all sorts of styles to choose from.
Room by Modern Home Decor
Make a statement with green! Painting a room green or adding accents from the same color family is an instant face lift for any room. Green can be integrated into so many design scenarios. The room above is the ultimate green and blue combination and I love the grass look-a-like rug.
My love of Jonathan Adler is hardly a well-kept secret, so it should come as no surprise that I’m absolutely head-over-heels for his new stationery line. Released a couple of weeks ago, the collection includes cards, journals, sticky notes, file folders (!), pens and more, and everything is priced for stocking up. And with such a variety of colors and patterns, these paper goods will make you happy to take notes or write a little letter.
There are many different ways to accent a room aside form the wall color. Adding texture with items like glass tile, natural stained woods in funky colors that accent the grain or patterned linoleum are all ways to make a splash. Every room calls for a unique solution so put on your thinking cap and go to town. The glass tiles shown above would not have the same effect in a muted color, see the tiles below. Color plays an important role when paired with texture. The deeper the color, the richer the texture and that is that.
Bedding by West Elm
Kudos for this new line of organic bedding offered by West Elm, the American home furnishings retailer. I usually love their designs and hate their quality, but this line of sheets and bed covers sets itself apart from the norm. Organic home furnishings is the latest craze and now it can be found in mainstream stores, I featured towels from Pottery Barn while back. I love the “pin-tuck” duvet shown above.
A house can be made a home by adding colors from the warm side of the color chart. Yellows, reds, and oranges all reside in this category. If you are not fond of the idea of painting an entire wall in one of these vibrant tones then accessories can do the job just as well. Adding a red pillow or two to a green room can pump up the rooms volume in a heart beat. How about re-upholstering a chair in an orange velvet for some zing?
House Beautiful : Blue Chair in Central Park
Call me crazy, but haven’t I been talking about this shade of blue since this summer right here on Tchochkes? This month’s issue of House Beautiful is devoted entirely to this vibrant shade and they are really putting on a show. I just read about their Blue Chair Give-away on the streets of New York City… WOW, they gave away some really great chairs for FREE. Sorry I missed out on that one!
Pantone Color Swatches
Collecting is a bit of a habit for those who like to accumulate piles of stuff. A nice way to get started on a color path is to begin by “color collecting”. This is a term that I use to excuse myself from the term hoarding.
I have been a color collector for many years now, with piles of color references in every empty drawer. If this idea appeals to you then you can easily start a collection of your own.
Choosing a favorite color is easy, all you have to do is focus on the ones that bring you joy. Here’s how to get started.
