Home tour: Michael and Nava Abel’s colorful gallery – Part 2

On Monday we went through Part 1 of Nava and Michael Abel’s colorful home.  Today we are going upstairs and seeing the rest of the house.

The stairs are industrial metal stairs that make a fantastic clomping noise when you step on them – which is perfect if you’re in the living room and listening out for small children going somewhere they aren’t allowed…

Sheet resource: Darlain

Sheets are one of those things that are noticed when they are exceptional.  My love for luxury sheets began “back in the day” when I started to travel for work.  My textile design career took me to Europe twice a year on trips that had me staying in four star hotels.  The sheets in those hotels were “to die for” and my sheet quest began…

Home Tour: Yuval and Orna Shaul’s apartment, part 2

We saw their wonderful living room, kitchen and bathroom on Monday’s post and today we’re checking out the bedrooms and clothing shop. They have three children, all of whom have a larger bedroom than their parents, which I thought was very nice of them. It was obvious that they want the kids to enjoy their space. Each room was special and filled with art.

Each kids room had similar elements. An amazing antique armoire, a simple bed and a desk. Oh – and of course, the art. They were all filled with art.

I’ve got quilts on the brain

My last post had an Eileen West quilt in it, and it got me thinking about how much I like quilts and how under appreciated they are. Regardless on if a quilt is made by machine or by hand they take more work than your average bed cover (unless it’s hand knit). The time to pick the colors, patterns – you have to have a love of textiles and design to appreciate the quilt, which often gets overlooked as people focus on the thick comfy down comforter and it’s designed duvet cover.

But isn’t that absolutely fabulous?! This amazing Hawaiian inspired quilt was handmade. And this isn’t the only stunning one on their website. Unfortunately they have stopped updating their blog – but these posts remain for now.

The end of my Goth stage

Patti (my partner on Tchochkes) was highly amused by the fact that I used to be a Goth (as I mentioned here) and insisted on hearing how it ended. So here’s the story.
I was into Goth from the age of about 14. I had an all black / dark green / dark purple wardrobe, wore granny boots, monkey boots and Doc Martins. As I have mentioned – I had a black satin bed set when I was 16.
Then, when I was 18 I was shopping with my parents in a bedding store and saw an Eileen West comforter set. It was absolutely lovely – pastel flowers that looked a lot like the Water Lilies collection by Monet.
