Speed Decorating, by Jill Vegas is more than just a book about getting your home “show ready” in a week. It’s a book chock-filled to the brim with good basic design advice and tips on the most effective way to get a home DIY redesign done.
It includes tips on how to disguise a wonky sofa (hide it with a suzzani) as well as the sequence for your DIY.
One of my favorite blogs, Apartment Therapy, did their own review a month ago. Since they focused on the main points of Jill’s book, I’m focusing on the images and tone.
I received Speed Decorating in the mail because I know Jill Vegas via my childhood friend Janet (who happens to own Sterling Pear – a gorgeous Christian holiday gifts company). Janet introduced us via Facebook.
I love the tone of the book. Jill’s writing is very friendly, almost as if you can feel her guiding you by the hand as you attempt to run through the maze that is decorating. You can see that she’s done staging for awhile because her advice is clearly thought out with all of the various details you only know from experience.
Although I have to say what I found the most interesting were the pictures chosen for the book.
There’s a lot of retro here and I love how it’s not being hidden.
Another thing I like about Speed Decorating is that it’s paperback and lightweight. This is the type of book you can bring with you in a bag to the store while you’re shopping as a reference.
Speed Decorating by Jill Vegas – definitely worth a read.

Great review Shira. I bought the book too and I love it. So many great photos for inspiration.
I’m ordering her book!
Can you ask her where she got her dress? Very cool.
